Wow! Jayne's updating her journal? Is it the end of the world or something? I think I gave a lame update around Christmas, but other than that.. it's been a good year. I'm just super bored and decided it would be fun to tell everyone about my loverly weekend.
So, as most of my best buddies know, I lived in Virginia for a good part of my life. I moved there from Georgia when I was 3 and moved to En Jay when I was 10. Anywho, that's where I was all weekend. Not too close to my old house or anything, but I did get to go through the tunnel in Baltimore that I used to go through everytime we came to Philly. We also stopped in the incredibly ghetto rest stop in MD, that we can never just pass by. Nooosstaalllggiaa.
The occasion for this trip to the State for lloovvers was my cousin, Kim's wedding! I only have 7 cousins, and only two are girls. So, this was exciting. Shelby and I were bridesmaids, and there are about a million pictures of us in our EMERALD GREEN, not TEAL *ahem*, dresses.
It seems this entry is going to be insanely long, but you should read it because it's been a year, and you know, you love me.
So Friday we drove down to VA, it's about a 2 and a half hour ride. We got to the hotel and went straight to the pool. LIES. Actually, first.. I discovered the free internet. Sweet. Can't be without myspace.. especially when I have awesome pictures to share. The weather all weekend was amazing. After a few hours of talking to old people at the pool, we got ready to go to the rehearsal and dinner.
The rehearsal took about 10 minutes. The best man, maid of honor, bridesmaids, grandparents, and parents of the bride and groom learned what to do at the wedding. Basically.. we learned where to stand, where NOT to stand, and which candle the mothers better not light.
Dinner was interesting, but definitely a good time. The restaurant had a newly born America type theme. Everything in the city of Alexandria is named for or is a tribute to old presidents or places. We ate way too much trifle, got gifts from my cousin for being in the bridal party, and we watched a slideshow of pictures made by the groom's friend. That was amazingly entertaining. The groom definitely went through an awkward stage, and it got slightly pornographic. A guy with a George Washington hairstyle came in and talked at about 100 words a second in 1700s babble. He was awesome, that John Douglas Hall.
Soooo Saturday morning- I woke up and met Kim, her maid of honor, Kim... the other bridesmaid Jaime, and my aunt to go get our hair done. Yes.. all day there were 2 Kims, a Jayne, and a Jaime. We all got different hairstyles all containing curls. Mine stayed in for about 8 minutes, as you can see in my "sex hair" picture on myspace. Kim's hair was gorgeous.. so was Kim's :p. The hair people provided us with an unhealthy breakfast, and we had some awesome conversation as everyone was finishing up.
We ran back to the hotel to grab dresses, shoes, makeup, and Shelby. A shuttle took us over to Fort Belvoir, where the wedding was. This place was AMAZING. We needed ID just to get in the gates. It's an army base with huge, cookie cutter kind of houses just for families with someone in the army. It was an entire town, really. There was a beautiful apartment just for us to get pretty. Out the window, we saw army brats swimming, and we had food, drinks, and MTV. The last bridesmaid met us there. One never came, because she had a baby that morning! That took a bit of rearranging for Kim. Every girl ended up with two groomsmen. There were so many pregnant girls around, including the bridesmaid that met us there. There were photographers everywhere we went. So we were pretty much half naked, half made up, and there were still pictures being taken.
We got into our dresses, and we matched perfectly! Originally, there was one dress.. but it didn't fit everyone. I'm assuming this is one out of about ten times small boobs will come in handy. Kim decided to let all the girls get any dress they wanted, as long as it was the same color. And we did a great job of matching, without ever seeing eachother's dresses. Although, everyone knew what mine looked like because I used the first dress.
As soon as the guests arrived, we all marched out and did everything we practiced. No one fell! It was the most beautiful wedding I've ever seen. It was outside, in a gazebo, with perfect weather. The ceremony was quick. Rich smashed a glass with his foot (He's not a Jew! That's what's so sweet about compromise :)) Everyone cried, then we left for more pictures.
Finally we got to party. Shelby and I traded our skin colored heels for flip flops. We ate way too much again, and we danced like no one was watching. Even though, more pictures were being taken. We decided that was awkward. Shelby and I were the only people who knew that Cotton Eyed Joe is a line dance, so everyone thought we made it up. Speeches were given, cake was cut, everyone started to fall asleep, or fall over from drinking.. and we went back to the hotel to sleep.
Today we met everyone for breakfast, and we left to do a bit of sight-seeing before coming home. It was really hot, but we did pop in and out of a few art galleries and expensive shoe stores.
We stopped at a different ghetto rest stop, and were home in no time.
So that was my weekend. I had an awesome time.. I saw so many happy people, and stuff like that just has to give you faith that happiness is out there for everyone. Everyone's got to find true love, a best friend to share his or her life with. Kim found an amazing guy, and I know they are going to have SO much fun together.
The reverand told Kim and Rich that there are 7 words they must remember, and everything will always work out. He wished them love as deep as the ocean, troubles as thin and scarce as the foam by the sea.. but when ripples come, these 7 words will save them.
"I love you, and I forgive you"
:) Happy Sunday, everyone
